Heating and Hot Water: Guide to Using Your Truma CP Plus Boiler
A Practical Guide for Comfort and Warmth on Your Travels
If your heating & hot water controls look like the image below, these instructions are for you!
Preparation: Power Up
-
Start by activating the desired power source: ensure the gas bottle valve is fully open (turned anticlockwise), or connect your campervan/motorhome to an external power supply at the campsite. Turn on the power inside your vehicle.
-
When you’re finished using the heating or hot water system, always turn off your Truma control panel before switching off the gas valve or disconnecting the electric supply.
Setting the Energy Source:
-
Press the rotary button once.
-
Turn the rotary button two clicks to the right to highlight the energy setting menu, then press to select it.
-
Choose your energy source:
-
Turn left for gas or right for electric, then press once to confirm.
-
Electric options:
-
EL1 is suitable for 6 amp sites (mainly in Europe).
-
EL2 is ideal for 10 amp sites (mostly in the UK).
-
EL2 heats faster as it uses both boiler heating elements, whereas EL1 uses just one.
-
-
Gas heats more quickly than both EL1 and EL2 for heating and hot water.
-
Avoid selecting the ‘Mix’ option.
-
Interior Heating Settings: Temperature (°C)
-
Press the rotary button once; the motorhome symbol will flash.
-
Press the rotary button to select the heating menu.
-
Turn the rotary button to set the desired temperature, then press once to confirm.
-
The top-line symbol will flash while heating and turn solid once the selected temperature is reached.
-
Fan Speed Settings:
-
Press the rotary button once.
-
Turn the rotary three clicks to the right to access the fan menu.
-
Press to select, adjust the fan speed as desired, and press once more to confirm.
-
After switching off the heating system, the fan can be used to circulate air inside the campervan/motorhome.
-
Hot Water Settings:
-
Press the rotary button once.
-
Turn the rotary one click to the right, then press to select the hot water menu.
-
Adjust to your preferred setting:
-
ECO: Water at 40°C
-
HOT: Water at 60°C
-
Avoid selecting BOOST.
-
-
Press once to confirm.
-
The top-line symbol will flash while heating and turn solid when the desired temperature is reached.
-
Tips
- The boiler prioritizes heating the van first, then switches to heating water. If hot water is a priority, turn off interior heating to allow the boiler to focus solely on heating the water. You can reactivate van heating once the water reaches the desired temperature.
- Using the timer feature is not recommended.
Fault Codes
If a fault code appears on the screen:
-
Scroll to the triangle symbol and press to select it.
-
Fault code details will appear on the screen.
-
If the code is flashing, wait approximately 15 minutes until it becomes solid.
-
Once the issue causing the fault is resolved, you can clear the code:
-
Hover over the triangle and press the rotary button twice to clear the code.
-
Common Fault Codes and Solutions:
-
Error Code 412: Window safety switch is not fully closed.
-
Solution: Ensure the window is fully closed and the small metal arm on the switch makes firm contact.
-
-
Error Codes 407, 420 & 514: No 240V power to the boiler.
-
Solution: Connect to a 240V power supply or switch to gas if available.
-
-
Error Code 17 / 401: Boiler reservoir is empty.
-
Solution: Check frost protection, refill the freshwater tank, and run the pump for 3 minutes to refill the boiler before using heating or hot water.
-
-
Error Codes 408, 507, 516, 517: Gas supply is interrupted.
-
Solution: Ensure the gas bottle has sufficient supply, the valve is fully opened (turned anticlockwise), and the habitation area shut-off valve is open. Once resolved, clear the code as outlined above.
